In the 1910 Boy Scout Handbook, Baden-Powell described Scouts who sat inside during the cold season as “Parlour Scouts.” Who would like to be thought of in those terms?

The Bay-Lakes Council Okpik Cold Weather Camping Training Program is intended to train youth and adult leaders in proper cold weather camping techniques so they can take these skills back to their units and extend their camping season to a 12 month program. For us in Wisconsin, that means cold weather camping!

Recently, a leader in my unit and good friend completed his own OKPIK training at Bay Lakes, and came back with lots of great information to make our own winter outings successful. He loved the course and everything he learned.

Consider OKPIK yourself and for your leadership team. Extend your Scouting program into a four-season experience. Registration deadline for this course is December 15, 2012.
