Each year, at a special dinner in February, the Fox River District recognizes selected individuals for their efforts in going above and beyond in supporting a quality Scouting program for youth in our district. The top award is the District Award of Merit, and it is the highest recognition that a district can bestow upon a volunteer. However we also want to recognize a number of other volunteers for their service, for without them we could not offer Scouting locally.

We cannot recognize people we don’t know about – we need YOUR help to find the people most deserving of these recognitions. They may be leaders in your unit, parents of your Scouts, or even other adults supporting Scouting locally working as counselors for merit badges, religious emblems or helping with activities. They can be involved in Boy Scouting, Cub Scouting or Venturing. The main requirement is that they are currently registered and serving Scouting in some capacity.

  • Lean On Me: Given to a registered leader in your unit, that you can call upon at the last minute, and they will come through.
  • Midas Touch: Given to a registered leader in your unit who seems to make good things happen when they get involved.
  • Silver Dollar: Given to a registered leader in your unit who has helped in a special way, or given an extra effort to help raise funds or resources for their unit, or for scouting in general.
  • Spark Plug: Given to a registered leader who has gone “above and beyond” the duties of his/her position in the unit for at least two years, and has contributed their time helping our district in at least two separate activities.

Please take a few minutes now to consider letting the nominations committee know about those Scouters you feel are most deserving of this recognition, and then fill out a nomination form so that we know about them too! But please do it soon – all nominations with or without forms are due to back Glen Bordak no later than Monday January 4, 2016 so that we have time to get the awards finalized and ordered.
