Catholic Committee on Scouting Awards

Each year the Milwaukee CCoS recognizes those Scouters who have made a significant difference in the lives of Catholic youth in Scouting. Two recognitions of these efforts, the Bronze Pelican and the St. George Award, are offered. Because Catholic Scouters are not always associated with units chartered by Catholic Churches, it is necessary to reach out in forums like this to help identify worthy recipients.

The Bronze Pelican is a local recognition for those who have provided spiritual service to youth both in and out of Scouting. For example, this person may help coordinate and review the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei youth programs in a Pack, or provide Chaplin services and guidance to the Youth Chaplin in a Troop during meetings or on campouts. They may help coordinate and provide guidance for service projects which reach out to local parishes, food banks, nursing homes, or other Catholic charities. In addition to their Scouting duties, perhaps they serve as REP or Sunday School teachers for the same families and youth they serve in Scouting. Perhaps this person provides guidance and counseling in a Catholic tradition when youth are seeking a friend. Any of these are great reasons to nominate outstanding Scouters for the Bronze Pelican. This is a Catholic Church based recognition, and not a BSA award program.

The St. George Emblem recognizes long standing service to the ideals of both the Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts of America. The ideal candidate has provided outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youth over the course of 10 years or more. Ideal candidates may be providing district, council or OA level service to a wide range of youth. The Archdiocese Committee recommends candidates to the National CCoS who provide the emblem on behalf of both the Church and the BSA. Recipients of this award are entitled to wear the adult religious knot on their uniforms.

Outdoor Adventure Expo and Chili Cookoff

Outdoor Adventure Expo

This event is designed for all Scouts and Scouters who would like to learn more about our council camps, especially RS Lyle and LeFeber Northwoods Camp, and the programs that will be offered in 2014. There will be games, activities, and giveaways. We will also have displays from local companies and organizations. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the program!

We are requesting that attendees please RSVP to lisa.held@scouting.org for this event so that we have enough materials for all.

DISTRICT CHILI COOKOFF COMPETITION

Does someone in Fox River District have a secret chili recipe? Would you like to earn bragging rights within The Three Harbors Council? Well here is your chance. Each district will be provided with chili stock and we will accept one official entry per district. Districts are allowed to add ingredients at their discretion but a full list of ingredients must be displayed prior to serving. We are also requesting that each district rate their chili on a 5-­?point scale of hotness. Competition begins at 10AM and judging/eating will begin at 12:30PM.

Camp Patch Set Fundraiser

Let’s face it – we love patches. Anyone who has been to Jamboree knows the fury created by Scouts having to find the “perfect” patch set. Patches commemorate experiences, people we’ve met, places we’ve been, dreams we have – and darnnit – sometimes they’re just really cool works of art!

This patch set is all of that – rainy nights huddled under the dining fly, Cub Scouts storming the Castle, bonfires that melted the bag the marshmallows came in and young Scouts running up and down the muddy lane breaking in their Scoutmaster’s shoes.
