Like most Troops, we’re trying to finalize our details for summer. Planning for a trip to a high adventure base like Philmont can take years in some cases, and it’s always on our minds.
If you recognize those letters, you’ll understand this video. It’s going viral in the Scouting community in its first two weeks, and it’s a GREAT piece to share with our youth.

The Silver Beaver Award is given by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America, upon recommendation of the local council, to persons who have given outstanding service to youth over an extended period of time. The local council will present a limited number of Silver Beaver Awards each year according to the number of registered units in the council.
This award is bestowed upon only those persons who have given continued, unselfish, and effective service to the community, usually through the programs of the Boy Scouts of America, but not limited to Scouting. Because individuals may not nominate themselves for this award, only those persons who have been nominated by their Scouting peers are considered.
The Silver Beaver Award is the highest recognition a local council can bestow upon volunteer leaders. Districts cannot be guaranteed that they will have someone selected for this award. There is not a district allocation. That said, every consideration will be made when there are district volunteers equally qualified for selection.
It is the intent of the Silver Beaver Committee to select the most deserving based on the applications submitted. These awards will be presented at the Annual Recognition Event. All volunteers are encouraged to attend, especially those receiving the Silver Beaver, along with those close to them.
You must use the official nomination form – Please use “save as” and name the file using the person’s name (Last Name, First Name).
Nominations are due no later than Friday, November 14, 2014. This form can be sent electronically to Margaret.Williams@Scouting.org or mailed to the

“We cannot recognize the good work of our volunteers who do not get nominated by their peers.” Please take a few moments to nominate a deserving Scouter!
This weekend is the Scouting Heritage Museum’s 36th Annual Trade-O-Ree. It’s FREE to attend and you’ll learn a TON about Scouting history through thousands of Scouting memorabilia items and artifacts on display.
Trading patches is fun and practiced by many Scouts and Scouters at gatherings like Jamborees, NOAC and regional Trade-O-Rees like this one! It doesn’t have to be expensive to get started, and its definitely lots of fun to look and learn about all of the cool events and patches that came before. This weekend will be a good time to pick up cool patches from Milwaukee and Southeast, and maybe some old Racine and Kenosha stuff too!
Doors open at 9AM and the event runs to 3PM on Saturday November 1st, 2014.
We’ll be downstairs at the Milwaukee Service Center, 330 South 84th Street, Milwaukee WI 53214.
To avoid 84th Street construction we have a back entrance to the parking lot which you can access off of Bluemound Rd. via Honey Creek Parkway to Dixon St.
